10 Untold Secrets Successful Writers Use To Boost Their Brands

Writing a book shouldn’t always be a daunting task.

To upscale your business to a better different phase you may want to write a book.

I know writing a book is a challenging process that can take weeks, months or even years to do – and you need to keep your motivation up to make sure you get the job done.

This is pretty obvious though.

But, if you choose a topic that you have absolutely no interest in at all, then you are not going to find the writing process enjoyable and you are not going to be motivated to even start that book nor to finish.

It is time to get moving because the sooner brands start building their selling strategy, the better they will be able to compete with more agile, digitally native challenges, and the easier it will be to stay in step with what the competitive marketplace will look like tomorrow.

A fully fledged writing strategy can be a game changer for your company, forcing it to make necessary changes in a digital world.

For example, an Amazon product page is composed of elements driven by three different groups in most companies: retail, merchandising, and paid media. A reputable selling strategy requires all of them to work together for greatest effect.

Amazon is a ‘hot selling hub’ for so many brands.

If they are not there yet, they feel being nowhere.

Today, all brands have either direct selling or indirect (data, branding, and advertising) opportunities with Amazon, and big ones at that.

Even at all this, almost no brands have a writing strategy that wins at Amazon.

They rarely look at Amazon beyond a product page, and sometimes not even that.

That said, they have comprehensive strategies for Facebook, Google, and even Snapchat – all of which are less consequential to their business.

It is clearly time for everyone to reconsider this approach.

One of the remarkable things about the Amazon company is how widely its properties are used. You are never too rich or too thin to go on Amazon.

Your business needs a Brand Book.

It is important to understand that your logo is NOT your brand, but rather a key part in your overall brand strategy. How that logo is rolled out into each aspect of your business operations is really where the branding magic happens.

What is a brand book?

Brand Book according to Brand Marker News (also commonly called a “brand guidelines,” “brand standards,” or a “style guide”) is essentially a set of rules that explain how your brand works.

How can writing a book improve the influence and sales of your brand?

If you simply sit down and start writing that letter to the customer, memo to your employees or anything else, you are writing backward. Before you put the pen to paper, you need a strategy to influence.

This is because we live in an era of sound bites and 140 character messages, but good writing still matters when it comes to the business world.

Whether you are an entrepreneur, small business owner, manager or an employee aspiring to any of those positions, you need to know how to write effectively for business.

Yes, that means paying attention to grammar, spelling, and punctuation, along with good word choice and a consistent style.

It’s not as hard as you think.

You don’t have to be a salesperson, copywriter or public relations, guru.

All you need to do is follow these three steps for everything you write.

A. Discover the WHY

The WHY is the purpose why you are writing.

Everything you write needs to have a purpose, otherwise, why would you bother writing it.

When writing a report internally or even a memo or status update for your boss, you are trying to tell them how your initiatives are succeeding and influence them to see you as a high performer.

Bad writing can have a wide-ranging, negative effect on your business, from creating a less-than-coherent business plan and hampering your efforts to attract investors, to communicating with employees, vendors and even your customers.

When you write a letter to a customer, you want them to agree with your place, buy more from you or simply feel good enough about their interaction with you that they’ll become a repeat customer.

B. Monitor your AUDIENCE

The different audience comes with different feeling and personal touch. You must not fail to take a step back and think about the issue from your readers’ perspective.

If you are introducing a change in policy, what will it mean to them?

What will be the impact? What will they care about?

Depending on what you are writing, you will be able to come up with many questions that will help get to the question about what matters to them.

C. Map a BLUEPRINT for writing

This is the part where most people neglect a lot.

You must not fail to structure your writing.

The writing should be clear and concise, structure what you write to make it easy to read and to see the important information, arguments, and points.

You may use headings to introduce paragraphs and switch some paragraphs into bulleted lists, which will be easier to read.

As soon as you start writing, get to the point and avoid phrases such as “The purpose of this report that I am submitting today is …” It does not matter.

All you need to do is: offer concrete, compelling examples to back up your statements using an organized compelling story structure with a logical beginning, middle, and end.

10 Writing Myths To Grow Your Brand

For beginners, a book is much longer than say, a blog post or an article, which means that it will take more time to finish it.

While there is nothing wrong with taking breaks as you work on your book, it is necessary to make sure that important elements of your book stay consistent.

No matter what your writing background may be, when you set out to write your first book, you will quickly realize that writing a book is unlike any other form of writing.

One of the core ways to make a good writing is to make a good reading.

If you can read enough, you can write enough.

This is so because having only one strength isn’t enough.

It is a baseball player who pitches amazingly but constantly strikes out at the plate.

If you want to advance in your writing career, you need to step up your game.

I believe every writer has a voice.

You must not fail to cultivate that voice.

One thing that keeps you unique from others is your own personal style.

You should own it!

Your own style is more than just composing an exciting sentence or creating a killer plot line.

It is about making the book yours–something no other writer would have written the same way.

It can take years to fully develop, and the differences are often subtle–but once you master your voice, it almost becomes your calling.

Writing as a calling is what your readers love and expect regardless of what subject you are covering or story you’re telling.

1. You must follow the experts

For you to upmarket your writing talent, you do not fail to read the book and as a book, the best author, study as a course observing the best speakers and to add exercising their styles of implementation.

Every successful writer studied every other writer to know when to break a leg, squash a teeth and sip a drink.

This is one of the secrets they never tell you – you can create your own methods.

Where the work of writing your own way lies is in your ability to simplify learning the skills of strong writing. Just as there are many skills to acquire to be productive, so is it in writing.

There are so many skills that must be honed and used during the editing process that if a writer is too self-conscious of the skills that need to be mastered, writer’s block can happen.

The experts never expose this secret to you.

2. Your writing must be long

It is never always true. This depends on the point you want to prove. While proving some points, you may need to write long and enough to clear some doubts.

Samuel is my friend who started writing short stories before writing his book. His writings weren’t long enough, but, the thoughts were intact.

He grew his writing skills with time using the exact strategies I shared in this post. He believes nonfiction books are easier to write than fiction. But, in my own case, it is not so true.

It all lies in the class of writing and the topic to tackle.

Fictional writing often is produced as a story meant to entertain or convey an author’s point of view.

The result of this may be a short story, novel, novella, screenplay, or drama, which are all types (though not the only types) of fictional writing styles.

3. Writing is a BIG work

Writing just works,” novelist Sinclair Lewis once said. “There’s no secret. If you dictate or use a pen or type or write with your toes–it still just works.”

Good writing is the kind of writing we enjoy, remember, learn from, and try to imitate.

While countless writers have willed to show that secret, only rarely do they seem to agree on what it is.

The truth is, though, that writing is hard.

Some types of writing are tougher than others. Ali Luke of Ali Ventures explained on the core reasons why fiction is so hard to write.

Fiction writing calls for the skills of plot, plot development, character, character development, subplots, verisimilitude, setting, time, place, story line, sub story lines, all these absolutely fascinating techniques that must be executed.

In such writing, the characters become real to you, the writer.

It is creating a mesmerizing world and this is so much fun to do if you know how.

This is about creating the world that the reader enters to be enchanted and even changed. I trust you to know that some people have been changed by what they have read.

4. We struggle with procrastination

If you’ve spent most of your life cruising ahead on natural ability, doing what came easily and quickly, every word you write becomes a test of just how much ability you have, every article a referendum on how good a writer you are.

Most writers manage to get by because, as the deadline creeps closer, their fears of turning in nothing eventually surpasses their fears of turning in something terrible.

I have procrastinated many a time even before I had my first book published.

One thing I noticed during the moment of procrastination is that: as long as you have not written that article, that speech, that novel, it could still be good.

You may have read many articles and books on how to stop procrastinating and they never worked.

I know of the best ways which have worked for me and will as well work for you.

It all lies in your ability to stop putting off.

Remember, runners get out every day and run.

Writers make regular time to write because it is impossible to go on living without getting those ideas out of your head.

Today’s post is the birth of my earlier post on being addicted to writing.

5. We ask too many questions

The flip side of developing your writing skills is the author’s story.

A huge obstacle to writing is when the writer has good writing skills but no compelling story (and, it is very bad!).

However, this is a common problem.

You must ask questions.

What are you to write about? What is the story behind what you want to write?

What is a story that is so compelling that people will want to spend their time reading and invest money in buying the book?

For some authors, that is the brick wall.

What good is having good writing skills when there is no story to be told?

Today, or this month or this year, you may be deciding not to write anything.

Each minute of every day, you are making decisions about what you will do or not, based on what matters most to you.

It is an act of decision, not procrastination.

6. We think, think and think

Learning new songs may be easy.

In the case of writing, learning (thinking of) new ways to expand proper ideas could be a stressful one.

The secret of good writing is to strip every sentence to its cleanest the way a man strips off the pants of a woman when in hot need for sex.

Every word that serves no function, every long word that could be a short word, every adverb that carries the same meaning that’s already in the verb, every passive construction that leaves the reader unsure of who is doing what–these are the thousand and one adulterants that weaken the strength of a sentence.

You will need to break the part that an eight-year-old child understands and can comprehend the thoughts lied on the pages of the book.

Writing is a high form of exercise to discover your original voice which helps you to uncover pots of ideas that is highly effective.

7. Consistency: the secret sauce that pays

Consistency is a man who marries any writer that is ready and hugs him.

No matter what your writing background may be when you decide to write your first book, you will quickly recognize that writing a book is unlike any other form of writing.

While there is nothing wrong with taking breaks as you work on your book, it is necessary to make sure that important elements of your book stay consistent.

Especially after an extended break, it is a smart idea to go through (i.e. re-read) what you have written to make sure that the new content you are to write flows with the previously written content.

There is this obsession that burns in the heart of writers.

The feeling of wanting it always, every time.

Writing can be something you want to enjoy.

All you need to do is to allow it come naturally to you.

As an individual, I certainly find it very hard to imagine a life where I didn’t write at all.

Because I’m so addicted to writing.

8. Rewriting an existing content

Ever heard that the best writing is rewriting? This is true if you know how.

To be able to rewrite, you must see your writing as a building.

If you did compare writing to building and furnishing a house, your first draft is the equivalent of laying the foundation, or perhaps laying the foundation plus raising support beams and a roof.

If you are gifted so well, the first draft may even look like a complete house, with the windows glasses in and a bit of polish on the floors.

But chances are, some of the beams are crooked, the lawn is still a morass of mud and straw bricks, and you forgot to install the plumbing.

Writing is about getting down to it, about finding your way into the moment and sustaining the energy for as long as you can, effectively and in the rhythm of your narrative.

Even a grade one child that learn to handle the pen can write. This is simply because anyone can think up a story and write it down.

Doing so doesn’t mean writing is your calling, only the ability to type (or hold a pen), a little perseverance, and some time on your hands.

You might be good at it and you might not, but skill is not a prerequisite.

If you have children, you know this is true.

You also know children resist the idea of revision–for them, the entire act of rewriting consists of getting the story down. Once and for all.

9. We choose how we use words

You may be a person who feels like having sex whenever you see any human on a skirt (whether a guy or gal).

Successful writers choose who, why and when they want it hard.

The secret behind the goodness of our writing is not in the choice of words; it is in the way we make use of words, how we make combinations and order of succession.

Before we embark on any writing journey, we develop an goal eye.

The goal eye is the special clarity and understanding we need to be able to see our work without prejudice so we can revise it effectively.

Not many writers start out with the clear vision in this eye, but it can be developed.

You must read, practice and join a critique group.

If you are reading this and a writer who is in the habit of writing your scene or chapter or story once, crossing out a couple of adverbs, fixing the typos, and calling it finished, break that habit!

Give yourself permission to experiment, make mistakes, start over, write yourself into a corner and then backtrack to paint in a door.

If you are concerned about ruining a scene that should have been left alone, keep the earlier drafts.

10. We choose to write

I can only tell you this: Believe me, when you master the process, you will know.

Seek, trust and follow the right process.

Trust your instincts and your gut.

Write, write, write, write and rewrite.

You will discover while doing so things you did not imagine about your work when you first sat down to create your initial vision.

Choosing what to write next is the most important decision you can make as a writer.

If you choose poorly, you will finish your piece and realize no one is interested in reading what you have written.

For you to be creative enough you need to relax enough.

When you relax, your mind is allowed to wander, to jump around to lots of different ideas, to make strange, serendipitous connections.

The brainstorming process is not the time to be in a hurry.

Grab a journal and a pen and go on a walk. Watch the birds.

Give yourself permission to be a little lazy

If you’ve gone through all the steps above, it is very fine to start now.

Do a little research and start writing.

Don’t forget that before you can say “yes” to one idea, you have to say “no” to a lot of ideas.

Don’t fail to write about what you know though it is an off-heard remark really it’s true, to an extent.

Conclusion

The easiest topic to write about is the one you already have the knowledge.

Whether that’s an area of your work, a hobby or historical personality you’re obsessed with.

Or, a life experience you’ve been through, writing about what you know is a good place to start.
