Simple Tools I Use To Improve My Content Writing Skills

There are different free tools to improve your content creation skills. The tools in this writing will help you write with confidence as a blogger, copywriter, social media enthusiast, and entrepreneur.

For people who write on a regular basis, it’s nothing new that writing isn’t always easy. Often those who English is not their native language tend to struggle with it.

Sometimes people write sentences and notice that there’s something odd about them, but are not sure of the error.

Other times they get halfway, with a sentence in mind, and are always in search of the word to come up with it.

These difficulties can make writing slow and painful. I can relate to the problem because I’ve been in such scenes many a time. If we can tell ourselves the truth – this is something everyone experience.

That said I will be sharing two different free writing tools for writers to master the art and act of writing.

I’m sharing this because whether you like it or not, your ability to exchange ideas, collaborate with others and ultimately succeed hinges on the ability to write effectively.

2 Effective Tools To Enhance Your Writing

1. Writefull

The Write Full App is an app with smooth integration to the word that helps you become a better writer. The more you use the app the better you become,

This is an amazing app that gives feedback on your writing by checking your text against databases of correct language and provides feedback on how to improve your content.

You can use Writefull in any writing tool (i.e. any writing platform you use) – from MS Word to Gmail. Writefull can be added as an extension to your Chrome Browser.

You can download for MACOS, WINDOWS, and LINUX.

It has many options that allow you to do the following:

1. Hear how your text is pronounced.

2. Translate from any language into English.

3. Find out which words are used most often in a gap in your selected text.

4. See which synonyms of a given word are used most often in your selected text.

5. Check how often your selected text is found in the language database, and see how it is used in context.

6. Enter two chunks and compare how often they are found in the database. Also, see how they are used in context.

As at the time of this writing Writefull costs $0. Isn’t that amazing? Of Course, it is!

2. Hemingway Editor

The Hemingway App is your go-to app which makes your writing bold and clear. This is a handy app to help you check the quality of your writing, and makes it more concise.

Once you have added your text, the Hemingway App will colour code sentences and judge how difficult they are to read.

Features Of Hemingway Editor 3 For Mac and PC

a. It keeps your writing simple: The Hemingway editor helps you write with power and clarity by highlighting adverbs, passive voice, and dull, complicated words.

b. It secures the sanity of your prose: The Hemingway editor cuts the dead weight from your writing.

It highlights wordy sentences in yellow and more egregious ones in red. Don’t worry about the colour codes and means, you will learn more about them if you continue reading.

c. It helps you to format your prose: Writing a draft can be easy but proofreading and formatting can be a huge task. With the help of Hemingway Editor whether you want bold, italics, headlines, or bullets, it handles all your text formatting needs with the click of a button.

d. No internet connection to use: At the early days of my writing career I started with Grammarly the free grammar checker that instantly eliminates grammatical errors and enhances your writing.

Even when I added Grammarly for Ms. Office to my Windows PC I discovered that I still needed to be connected to a network that has internet access before I could use it.

Unlike Grammarly which needs an internet connection, you don’t need that for Hemingway Editor. It can be used wherever you write—on the train, at the beach, or in a coffee shop with spotty Wi-Fi network.

As long as you have your computer, you’ll have Hemingway. It is as simple as that.

e. Hemingway for blogging: This is one of the features bloggers may like.

This app allows you to publish for the rest of the web. How do I mean? It handles everything you need for a web page, including HTML headings, formatting and links.

Once you’re ready to publish, export as HTML or Markdown for your blogging platform or CMS.

Hemingway Editor can as well be used to publish directly to WordPress and Medium respectively.

It has one-click integration with Medium and any WordPress blog (hosted on or on your own).

Using this great tool you can publish a draft or live post, right from the Hemingway Editor.

f. Several export opportunities: Your documents on Hemingway Editor can be exported to Microsoft Word or other editors.

Hemingway makes it even easier to work alongside other editors if you want. The app has an added ability to import text from Word i.e. .docx files—no more copying and pasting between programs.

Also, when you’re done editing in Hemingway, you can export to text, PDF, or Word.

The opportunities this brings allows you to send Hemingway highlights to colleagues.

This means you can save a PDF of a piece of writing, with all the Hemingway highlights intact.

This tool is worth using because using it shows what improvements the user need to make.

Hemingway Editor Colour Codes and Meanings

Blue: Adverbs and weakening phrases are helpfully shown in blue. Get rid of them and pick words with force, perhaps.

Purple: You can utilize a shorter word in place of a purple one. All you need to do is to mouse over them for hints.

Green: Phrases in green have been marked to show passive voice.

Yellow: If you see a yellow sentence, shorten or split it. The app highlights lengthy, complex sentences and common errors to make your writing interesting and easy-to-read.

Red: If you see a red highlight, your sentence is so dense and complicated that your readers will get lost trying to follow its meandering, splitting logic — try editing this sentence to remove the red.

To use the tool for free online click here, or invest a small sum to download the app and use it offline as well.

Hemingway Editor cost for Windows or Mac OSX is $19.99 with PayPal option.

    Hi Prince.

    Nice apps.

I have heard great things about Hemmingway. I should use it because I can’t write πŸ˜‰

Really though, using tools to make your blogging life easier is the way to go. Writing 1K words a day in a Word document is the best way to increase blog traffic, to boost income and to hone your content writing skills but tools or apps can tighten up your writing game. Especially if you are a non-native speaker who needs some clarity in the grammar area.

    Thanks for sharing Prince.

    Hi Prince,

Great apps and I’ve heard several bloggers talk about the Hemmingway app. Personally, I use Grammarly and have been using it for about 2 months.

Since I’ve started using it, I realized how bad my writing is. The Grammarly app has double checked my content before I hit publish. I also use it for the guest posts that I write.

I had no clue that these types of apps would help me improve my writing. However, they have and I know now that my grammar sounds better.

Anyone who is not that great with grammar should check these out. Most of us don’t realize that our grammar is terrible until we start using these apps.

Thanks for taking the time to share these tools with us, no doubt they will help people improve their writing.

    Have a great day πŸ™‚

      Hi Susan

I remember when I uploaded one of my early blog posts to Grammarly Grammar Checker. I couldn’t believe my see. I was like – WTF is this?!

Using the tool has been an amazing stuff. Makes writing sound and look professional. Already installed Grammarly in the Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browser I use.

Thanks for taking time to read, share your experience using the tool. From the feedbacks here I learn that some persons are not yet familiar with using the Hemingway Editor.

I hope you guys check it out. Have a fabulous day, Susan πŸ˜€

I enjoyed your post so much, thanks! I’m a content writer who’s constantly seeking ways to improve my skills and your post is so so by the way! Mostly I liked Writefull, it’s simply genius app! πŸ™‚ Also wanted to give some advice for content writers like me: never forget to check your writing, especially blog posts for plagiarism in plagiarism checker. Since you can plagiarise even unconsciously and Google will punish you strictly in such a case. I have such an unpleasant experience, so I wanted to warm everyone.
