4 Ways to Become a Professional Writer on Social Media

How difficult is it to become a professional writer on social media today? Maybe you’ve followed an influential writer on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram or Pinterest and kept imagining how people are able to dish out contents every minute of the day.

Imagining is not enough, friend. I’m right at your face asking you this; have you ever paused to ask how difficult or simple writing really is? Or, probably, how did writers who made it to the top make it? What drives these folks? Are they really mortal or are their achievements propelled with the use of some magic wand?

I may not have your answer but we could have one thing in common if you are thinking my way – Intentionality.

World Writers (dead and alive) who we celebrate today, knowingly or unknowingly, was/is intentional about the contents they unleash, how they do it and where they do it. The back-end (thought processing steps) has more to what people see (how they view the front-end)

Most times it is not about what you publish but how and where you publish it. The way a message is been presented goes a long way to determine what people feel or think about what is been shared. Also, the way a message is published has a way it stirs people’s response.

Become a Professional Writer Online? Follow these Tips

1. Get a Signature – Brand your Writing Style

Copying others people’s writing style only makes your less confident and most times turns you into a carbon copy of others. It sounds good to say “he writes like Ryan Biddulph” than saying “he copies Ryan Biddulph.”

Anyone may not be the perfect expert to everyone. It is normal, and everywhere of course. Who I tag professional can be less or not a professional if you are asked what you can say about the characters they exhibit.

People call others professional based on the amount of knowledge they carry. It is not a “who is leading who” game – it is mostly about what you know that others don’t know. What makes you a professional is not really about the amount of knowledge you carry but how you express your expertise to the people.

Building a writing style shouldn’t be something difficult. You can build your own writing style from influential writers; don’t try to copy their style. It is good to learn from others and very bad to depend on their style to succeed.

What if how they do it stops working, what do you do? Some weeks back I shared some writing myths to become an influential writer. You can read the post to learn how to become an influential writer who people love.

2. Know What, When and Where to Publish

I am a photographer. Should I post my photos on LinkedIn? I love pets. Should I share tips on how I take care of them on Snapchat? I am a tailor. Should I share some designs I sowed on Instagram?

I know you have one, two or more things you do to serve humanity. Where you showcase what you have is very important. There is no right platform to display any talent, but there are platforms for different kind of talents.

So, it is your personal duty to identify the right platforms to unleash your potentials as a writer. Social media is one of those platforms. Everyone is addicted to something. We have many folks today who are addicted to the social media.

The social media is their home, and they live in it. Some live with pains and emotional traumas while the friend – issues with making profits from the business they do.

Question: Do you know one of the best ways to make more sales from the value you offer?

Answer: Bringing your value to the door-step of those that need it.

As a writer, you need to bring value to the doorstep of those who live online. We have many busy people today unlike before. While some are busy doing the right business, others are busy for the sake of busyness which is appalling.

When are you able to identify those who are busy and not doing business what kind of contents do you serve them? What you serve is really important the moment you identify what their problem really is and have taken the responsibility to help.

Know what, where and when to make your services available.

3. Monitor Social Trends

This year, we have a number of writing trends you need to study if you want to succeed in the marketplace. It is not something you must do. But, if you really want to succeed you need to have the true solution to people’s problem.

Don’t be among those who sell false solutions to people in return for their resources. Find what people are struggling with and provide a true solution to the problem.

How do you monitor social media trends as a writer?

Social media trends are simply what’s trending on social media, at the moment. While this can be misunderstood. Be cautious of what’s happening on social media in order to be able to create contents that attract and actually gets read.

What do I mean by getting attraction and read?

For instance: If there is a trend that “The President of your country raped a 6-year-old girl” and people are all over the place sharing their thoughts about the news. Before you share yours, pause and think. If you must write, let your first sentence or paragraph compel people to read!

Responding to every trend is not something you must do. If you so wish don’t fail to address what’s trending with a sense of purpose and maturity. People are following you. When people believe in your brand, they can take to heart every content you dish out.

Like the popular Nigerian Artist by name Olamide Adedeji, known by his stage name Olamide but popularly called Olamide Baddo, is a Nigerian hip hop recording artist. He records mostly in Yoruba, his native tongue. Every dance step in his music becomes a social trend, going viral and something his fans can’t stop expressing. For them, he is a professional singer while they are the followers. To become a professional you need to start acting like one.

As someone who wants to become a professional writer on social media, you need to have the mindset of a leader. If you do the wrong things you’ll be misleading your followers. If you do the right things, and they follow, you are blessing their lives positively.

4. Always See a Market that Needs your Service

No matter how bad a community is, professionals see a market to sell. Where there is a market, there is an exchange of value. How you gather, manage, and use information will decide whether you win or lose.

Business At The Speed of Thought by Bill Gate explained well about developing systems of information that rocks. The best way to put distance between your brand and the crowd is to do an excellent job with information.

I believe you know there are more competitors today. There is more information available about them and about the market, which is now worldwide. The winners will be the ones who develop a world-class digital nervous system so that information can easily flow through their brand for maximum and constant learning (This is one of the core  reasons why Facebook owned by Mark Zuckerberg stays at the peak of excellence – information easily flows through his brand, and there is constant learning).

Information is power, they say; people go to feed their minds where there is information. You need to be the writer who maximizes social media as a platform for excellence. No matter how hard people hate reading they never despise information – whether politics or not – they care and will always read.

I know what you’re going to say about utilizing social media as a tool to share your value with the people: no, it’s efficient processes! It is winning market share and creating brands that are recognized! It’s getting close to those that need what you carry!

Personal brands are still recognized today and largely followed by folks who love what they unleash. Success, of course, depends on all of these things. Nobody can help you if your processes aren’t efficient if you don’t care about quality if you don’t work hard to build your brand.

My Final Thoughts

Information flow is the lifeblood of your brand as a writer because it enables you to get the most out of people (those you work with) and to learn from those you serve (the populace).

See if you have the information to answer these questions:

What do people think about your products?

What problems do they want you to fix?

What new features do they want you to add?

Where are your competitors winning business from you, and why?

What new markets are appearing that you should enter?

When I became awakened with the reality that I was responsible for my outcome in life as a writer, I encountered one major challenge – I wanted my breakthrough to come instantly. I often forgot that just like “Rome wasn’t built in a day”, neither does anything of significant come to be in an instant.

I’d set unrealistic social media goals and I became very annoyed when the goals are not met. I bought into that myth called “overnight success” and it ripped off my efforts. Becoming a professional writer on social media is not going to be instant.

Constant practice and persistence bring forth success. Speed is different from rush – run with speed but never rush things. Learn, relearn and unlearn the things that need to be unlearned. Operating with a good writing plan, added with consistency is the key that unlocks every door.
