What Products or Services Do You Need to Trash?

I observed a few old blog posts today. One linked to an eBook I since trashed. I listed 27 influential bloggers to follow but I created the list of bloggers in 2015. Wow. Times have changed. Who I deemed influential in 2015 is quite different than who I see as influential in 2020. I respect the list from 2015 in that I believe each blogger has some skills. But I would call few genuinely, powerfully influential in 2020 because my viewpoints have changed, I gained confidence, clarity and a sense of discernment in the past 5 years.

Making this shift causes me to feel uncomfortable calling these bloggers influential now; at least, most of them. The list and eBook has to go to keep my credibility.

I deleted the eBook because I can not confidently, clearly, honestly and genuinely say every one of those bloggers is influential and worthy of a follow based on my current day:

  • blogging skills
  • blogging credibility
  • blogging exposure
  • blogging brand

Rather than tell folks to follow bloggers I no longer follow or deem influencers, I trashed the eBook to keep my credibility intact. I also trashed my coaching and freelance writing services not because of any quality issues but because I moved to a completely passive income model fitting for my world traveling ways. But I also trashed old blog posts simply not resonant with my blog, brand and direction, these days. Times change. Life changes. Values change. Trash products, services or content that needs to go because the stuff no longer resonates with your current day blogging values.

Letting go old income streams feels uncomfortable sometimes. I feared letting go ways to make money because I felt this hurt my income potential. I soon learned letting go worn out streams makes room for new, freeing income streams resonant with who you really are.

Never publish premium products and services you do not feel keep your integrity intact. Only publish and sell products resonant with your current day blogging values. I published one eBook fun and light in nature in 2015. I enjoyed writing the piece. But current day me possesses different values. I deleted the eBook because I did not feel clear, comfortable and confident selling the eBook.

I need to be genuine. I need to be honest. I need to publish what I value. I need to be 100% behind what I do. I release anything I am no longer clear on. Doing so allows me to sleep well at night because I feel clearer on my offerings any time I let go what needs to go in order to make room for what I am steered to create now.

What needs to go with your blogging campaign? What income streams have you long outgrown?  Look at your blog through honest, genuine eyes. Bloggers often want to put on blinders when it is time to decide what needs to stay and what needs to go. Do your best to simply let go what needs to go in terms of trashing worn out income streams.

Delete offerings no longer up to your quality standards. Some work likely does not remain up to snuff as your skills increase. Trash work you cannot stand behind. Note my influencers list eBook; I cannot sell an eBook of bloggers who I no longer see as influencers because much has changed from 2015 to 2020. I saw all types of folks as influencers in 2014. Now I have a discerning blogging palate as my skills, exposure, credibility, confidence and clarity has improved.
